12th Workshop on Reconstructive Surgery _ Bujumbura

The 12th workshop of reconstructive surgery was organized by 2nd Chance in close cooperation with Dr Astère Ndayiezeye and Dr Jésus-Marie-Joseph Ndayishimiye at the University hospital of King Khaled ( CHUK) of Bujumbura from 8 till 12 April 2013.

It was the first workshop of surgery reconstructive organized in Burundi.

The training team was headed by Dr Pierre QUINODOZ and seconded by experimented surgeons in reconstructive surgery: Dr Alberto MUSOLAS, Dr Ed WAYI and by the anaesthesiologist Dr Lionel DUMONT.  23 very committed surgeons from 9 African countries as well as a young Swiss surgeon Dr Nicolas BALAGUE took part to the seminar.

21 patients of Burundi and 2 patients of the RDC were operated during three days spent in operating theaters.

The Head of WHO Emergency and Essential Surgical Care (EESC) Program, Dr Meena CHERIAN participated in the first three days of the seminar presenting the WHO Integrated management for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care (IMEESC) toolkit. Mrs Verena NOSER,  desk for the Great Lakes at the Division for Development and Cooperation of the Swiss Government which financed the event met the team on Thursday, April 11th in the CHUK.
