Reconstructive surgery course in Kampala (Ouganda), April 18-22, 2016
2nd Chance and COSECSA organized the first course for junior surgeons based in the Central-East and South of Africa.
Dr Robert Ssentongo co-organised the course with the international team from 2nd Chance, in partnership with COSECSA, at the Mulago hospital in Kampala.
13 surgeons spanning eight countries (Ouganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Nigeria) participated in the 5 days course.
After two days of theory, the teams were invited to join some twenty reconstructive surgery operations – half of them with children.
Those courses come as a complement to the training already acquired by the surgeons over the past three years through the COSECSA Programme (www.cosecsa.org) and introduce them to the techniques of reconstructive surgery.
Once ready to practice standard surgery, some of those professionals will choose to pursue their training in reconstructive surgery and will follow the advanced courses provided by 2nd Chance.
