Intraoperative Anesthesia-Related Critical Events in Low-Resource Hospitals During Short-Term Surgical Missions in Tanzania and Democratic Republic of the Congo: An Observational Study

🔍 Study on Anesthesia in Tanzania & DRC: Overcoming Challenges in Low-Resource Hospitals

We conducted a study to uncover the challenges of anesthesia in these settings. The results are striking: 54% of patients experienced critical incidents. Hypoxemia, equipment failures, airway management issues… Lives are at risk every day.

🔹 Lack of essential resources: monitors, reliable oxygen supply.
🔹 Limited training: immense responsibilities for non-physician providers.
🔹 Inadequate infrastructure: unsuitable for complex surgeries.

Our Call to Action:
✅ Invest in durable, essential equipment.
✅ Strengthen training for local providers.
✅ Promote minimum anesthesia standards (WHO, WFSA).

Every data point drives actionable solutions. Support our mission for safe, dignified care. Together, we rebuild lives.
