For women affected by breast cancer, reconstruction can be an important part of restoring function, body image and quality of life. Yet access to reconstructive surgery remains limited in many settings. 2nd CHANCE work to strengthen access to reconstructive surgery across sub-Saharan Africa by training surgeons, treating patients alongside local teams and advocating for the integration of reconstructive surgery into health systems. Our presence at the World Cancer Congress 2026 in Hong Kong last week was part of this commitment. WE ADVOCATE means bringing reconstructive surgery into wider conversations on cancer care, access to surgery and quality of life — and connecting with partners who can help advance this work.
