Founded in 2010, 2nd Chance is a Swiss non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the critical need for reconstructive surgery in low- and middle-income countries, as well as post-war regions.
We train surgeons, anesthetists and medical professionals to build local capacity in reconstructive surgery in countries where the shortage of specialists is acute, aiming at full autonomy.
We treat vulnerable patients by ensuring they have access to life-changing surgical interventions.
We advocate for the integration of reconstructive surgery into national health systems and international humanitarian efforts, to ensure sustainable access for all in need.
2nd Chance Association’s mission is to address the critical shortage of reconstructive surgery specialists, where millions of patients lack access to essential surgical care. 2nd Chance is dedicated to training surgeons, anesthetists and peri-operative professionals in reconstructive surgery in sub-Saharan Africa.
Through our « Train the Trainer » approach and a network of over 100 volunteer professionals, we strive to provide full skilled autonomy to local healthcare systems to restore dignity to victims and support their social and economic reintegration.
We collaborate with the African colleges of surgeons WACS and COSECSA to support them by providing additional theoretical and practical trainings to surgeons students, anaesthetists and medical/ OR teams and by providing educational scholarships. We develop a network of international professionals able to intervene globally.
