WHAT IS RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY
MANY DISEASES DO NOT KILL PEOPLE BUT LET THEM SURVIVE WITH TERRIBLE DISABILITIES, DEFORMATION, SHAME AND SADNESS.
RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY IS SURGICAL TREATMENT THAT HELPS PEOPLE WITH TERRIBLE DISABILITIES TO REGAIN A NORMAL LIFE.
IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AESTHETIC SURGERY;
THE AIM IS ONLY TO ALLEVIATE THE TERRIBLE HANDICAP AND DISABILITIES IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
2ND CHANCE HAS EXTENDED THE CONCEPT OF RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY TO PATIENTS THAT NEED RECONSTRUCTION OF PART OF THE BODY, SUCH AS GIANT GOITER THYROID SURGERY AND OBSTETRIC FISTULA SURGERY.
Accidents, congenital deformities, crippling diseases and war wounds, are misfortunes against which surgery has made a great deal of progress.
Those who can be treated will often be lucky enough to live a normal life.
OUR MISSION
Give people a 2nd Chance with reconstructive surgery for life reconstruction
In countries where medical and material facilities are not readily available, such physical discrepancies impair the psychic and social quality of life of millions of people. Needs are tremendous. Local skills for the care of these patients are still far too limited.
2nd CHANCE is a non-profit organization which aims at developing reconstructive surgery in regions which are economically underprivileged as well as in post-war contexts.
The project began more than 10 years ago with a partnership between Dr Pierre Quinodoz and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)
In 2010, 2nd Chance was created to give members of the Association the means to :
Locally train surgeons to new skills they will use to treat their populations
Supply material which is often lacking
Finance operations for indigent persons
